Morningstar notes that just two bond funds appeared on the top ten list, supporting recent data showing a rotation into equities and away from fixed income. Among other popular funds in Q1 are several of the industry’s biggest fund names, such as Templeton Global Total Return and Invesco Perpetual High Income.

Morningstar adds that developed market funds are notable by their absence which the firm says implies that investors are continuing to seek greater returns in greater risk areas.

Holly Cook, Morningstar says: “UK, US and European equities have all enjoyed a strong start to 2013, while many emerging markets have struggled year-to-date, highlighting the drawback of chasing ‘hot’ topics.

“However, despite the riskier nature of areas such as emerging markets and natural resources, we believe these funds present attractive opportunities for investors. All ten are highly rated by Morningstar’s fund analysts and we believe that they will continue to outperform their category peers.”
