ETFs: All you ever needed to know

These funds have become popular as they offer a cheaper way to track indices such as the FTSE 100 or get exposure to physical commodities such as gold and oil, reported the Daily Telegraph.

However, some have become increasingly complex, according to a report by the Financial Stability Board (FSB).

The ETF market is currently estimated to be worth more than $1.2 trillion (£733bn), having more than doubled in size over the last five years.
