Targeted absolute return funds were the best selling mutual funds in May garnering £255m of sales according to the Investment Management Association’s latest figures.
This is the second time this sector has been the best-seller in 2013 with March being the first best-selling month this year.
The Mixed Investment 20-60% Shares sector was the second best-selling sector with net retail sales of £231 million.
The Sterling strategic bond sector was the third best-selling sector with net retail sales of £222 million, well above its average for the last 12 months of £127 million. Global equity income was the fourth best-selling sector with net retail sales of £172 million. Global emerging markets was the fifth best-selling sector with net retail sales of £171 million. The worst-selling sector for May 2013 was UK All Companies with a net outflow in retail sales of £102 million.

In terms of geographical ‘region’, global equity funds remain the best-sellers by far with net retail sales of £351 million in May 2013. This has consistently been the best-selling for equity funds since June 2012 says the IMA.
North America was the second best-selling sector with net retail sales of £146 million in May 2013 – well above its average of £11 million over the previous 12 months and the highest for the region since March 2011 (£153 million).
UK equity funds were the third best-sellers with net retail sales of £102 million.
