Does it really make sense to put a sell signal on Neil Woodford’s funds?

It’s a brave broker that puts a sell note on the funds of one of Britain’s star fund managers Invesco Perpetual’s Neil Woodford writes investment journalist James Smith.

That is arguably doubly the case if you are taking issue with his economic assessment and subsequent defensive approach to investing.

Financial websites were abuzz this week with news that Sanlam’s latest White List – which offers guidance on the best UK equity income funds – has put a sell notice on some of the star fund manager’s funds.

Woodford is perhaps the best-known and most successful current investor in UK equities, building his income funds at Invesco Perpetual to more than £20bn over the last two decades.
