UK Equity Income is September’s best selling mutual funds sector

UK equity income was the best selling mutual fund sector in September according to the Investment Management Association with net sales of £358 million.

Mixed Investment 20-60% Shares was next with net retail sales of £250 million compared with the £225m monthly average over the last 12 months. Property saw net retail sales of £177 million – the highest since June 2010 and well above the monthly average of £71 million for the previous 12 months. Europe Excluding UK saw net retail sales of £150 million, well above its monthly average for the previous 12 months (£77 million). The fifth most popular sector was targeted absolute return with net retail sales of £148 million, in line with its monthly average of the previous 12 months (£151 million).

UK equity funds were the best-selling region in September 2013 with net retail sales of £505 million – the highest since October 2006. Taking the third quarter as a whole, sales reached £1.3 billion, the best figure since the second quarter of 2001. Global equity funds were the second best-sellers in September 2013 with net retail sales of £365 million. European equity funds were the third best-sellers with net retail sales of £240 million.

1.    UK Equity Income (£64 million net)
2.    Mixed Investment 20-60% Shares (£33 million net)
3.    £ Strategic Bond (£26 million net)
