Australia: Could the introduction of a carbon tax lead the way for other nations?

The Australian prime minister Julia Gillard has announced plans to place a £15 a tonne tax on carbon emissions by the country's 500 worst polluting companies from next July.

But, as The Telegraph website reports, the idea is proving to be deeply unpopular and has "prompted fears it will cost jobs, lead to extra household expenses and curb Australia's mining boom".
