Is China facing its own glasnost moment?

The new Chinese leadership is facing its first big challenge over censorship and it comes from what you could call an alliance of old and new media.

But has freedom of speech any bearing on investment and the country's economic prospects? Mindful Money thinks the answer is a definite maybe but only if any liberalisation comes as part of other long term changes in the way the country governs its economy and regulates business.

The current stand off has seen some journalists at the Southern Weekly newspaper striking over an opinion imposed on the paper in the New Year which praised the Chinese leadership and crucially replaced one calling for guaranteed constitutional rights.
